What is OMT?

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is a hands-on technique used by doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs) to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. We use a variety of gentle techniques to manipulate the musculoskeletal system, including muscles, bones, and connective tissues, to improve the body's natural ability to heal itself.

Benefits of OMT

  • Can be used to treat a wide variety of common ailments, including headaches, arthritis, stress injuries, sports injuries and pain in areas such as the lower back, neck, shoulders and knees

  • Improves mobility

  • Reduces stress

  • Provides a non-invasive and medication-free treatment option for patients

  • Can be administered safely in combination with other medical treatments to improve outcomes

How is this different from a Chiropractor?

There are some similarities between Osteopathic manipulation and Chiropractic manipulation however, chiropractors focus primarily on spinal alignment and thrust type treatment techniques. A DO practicing OMT has access to a broader spectrum of therapeutic options in addition to the thrust techniques, among which are myofascial release, muscle energy, counterstrain, visceral manipulation, and many more.
